port not staying/ever open(ing)

by frost1691 / February 10, 2007 12:00 PM PST

I am using a NETGEAR WPN824v2 wireless router and am trying to open a port to allow my downloading speeds on uTorrent to go faster. As of right now they are barely breaking 10kb/s. So I opened the port on my router that corresponds to utorrent. The first time i opened it, i checked on utorrent to see if it was actually open, and it said it was and my downloading speeds were drastically increased. They were pushing 100kb/s each. i comeback an hour later and they were back down to nothing. i checked the port and it said it wasnt enabled. it was the same port from before. so i go to my routers page and the enabled port doesnt even show up. i try to enable it again, but it says it is already enabled. i try a different port, and it stays open for about 10 minutes. i try another one, and it never opens. i have no firewalls anywhere on any of our computers. what gives? i followed the instructions on im pretty sure i did. any help?
