you still have spyware/addware installed on your commputer or a virus. you need to scan for a virus and for adware some more. it's definitely something you have running and you need to go through that list again. Task Manager will show almost everything. you probably need to go through the Startup list using some tool like Startup Cop to see every application that is being started. i presume you are running a firewall and antivirus software to prevent your computer from being hijacked.
Herb...
Popup Ads keep popping up on the desktop, even when no browser is running.
I am not computer illiterate and have tried several things, but I need help with this challenge.
I have made sure that Messenger service is disabled.
I have even tried disabling Internet Explorer and uninstalling MSN Messenger 6.0
I have run 2 different spyware detectors.
Nothing seems to stop the popups. Even when MS Internet Explorer is disabled ? Explorer windows pop up with ads ? even when the computer is unattended. Short of going off-line nothing helps. (I have a DSL connection).
I have even tried using ad blocking in Zone-Alarm.
I have tried reviewing all the running Processes and Services, but may have not done a thorough job with that one ? or been unsure exactly what some of them were.
Can you offer any suggestions?
