Popping noise from LNT3242H

Nov 14, 2008 2:16AM PST

Hi,
I've recently been hearing a pretty loud popping sound coming from my LNT3242H tv. I've haven't noticed any pattern to it, but in the past few weeks I hear it probably 1-3 times a night (say over a two hour period or so). I've owned the TV for about 7 months now (but it was a refurb). I think the popping noise is new, at least I don't recall hearing it before. It's currently hooked up to cable directly from the wall (ie, no cable box). Any info as to what might be causing this and whether I should be concerned would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

If it just started happening, there may be something with the internal board or speakers. The best thing to do is to schedule a service for the unit.

Trouble shoot on my own?
Nov 16, 2008 4:29AM PST

Thanks for the quick reply. I was hoping you wouldn't say that though, as I think my warranty may be expired (since I purchased it refurbished I didn't get the full year warranty). Is there anything I can try on my own to troubleshoot before calling on a tech?

Thanks.

re: firmware

Thanks for the suggestion. For some reason I thought I had the most recent firmware, but I was running 1027 (the current version is 1031). I updated it last night and will let you know within the next few days whether the situation has improved. Based on the website's description of the problems addressed with the new firmware, I can't say I'm incredibly optimistic; but as you suggest, it's worth a shot.

Whether this resolves my problem or not, I'd like to thank you for your help with this and your thoughtful responses to other posts in this forum. You are providing a very high level of service, one that seems to be getting harder and harder to find these days. I find it very valuable, as I'm sure other Samsung customers do.

Thanks again.

We're doing the best we can to listen to our customers and assist them. I believe this is one of the best ways to do that, and anything I can possibly do to help, I'll do.

Yes, definitely keep me posted. In some cases, it works, and strangely, in others it doesn't. But let me know because I'm detailing this issue.

Follow up

It's been a couple of weeks since I applied the firmware update and while I haven't logged too many post-update hours watching the set, I have not noticed the popping noises I was hearing before. I heard a few quiet click/pop type sounds the first day or two after the update (probably unrelated), but I haven't noticed anything else since. Again, I haven't had the set on that much, but given the frequency of the noises previously, it's likely I would have heard something by now.

Thanks again for your help!
