POPfile question

May 7, 2005 7:18AM PDT

A few months ago, someone on this list suggested the anti-spam program POPfile, which I installed and have used quite happily until just now. I'm using OE 6 as my mail client, and POPfile requires slightly different "properties" settings than my server does, and suddenly, I'm having trouble contacting the server and downloading e-mail. Any reason why this should happen out of the blue? Server isn't much help because they'd just as soon sell me their own anti-spam services.

Thanks.

There are numerous issues surrounding email as more and more spam clogs the servers. Many call for help and it's just some ISP email server in overload.

But a few home things to do.

-> Do you run the Popfile UI and delete it's "cache?" It's "Remove All" button must be hit from time to time to keep it's database cleaned up.

My ISP email servers "glitch" or go offline from time to time. I know to just try later. In one case they took a week to recover.

POPfile question

Bob,

As I recall you were the one who put me on to POPfile. In answer to your questions, yes, I delete the cash frequently. And yes, the problem came up after there was a glitch in my being able to get online with my ISP. This was resolved by turning off and then back on my cable modem. But the mail problem remained until I changed the settings in the accounts-properties of the OE 6 program.

I don't have enough clues to point to any issue to be worked on.

You suggested it might take a week to clear up. I'll just give it some more time then try the POPfile settings again. Thanks.
