How I Dealt With Pop-Ups
Mar 28, 2004 9:32PM PST

I used to have those pests popping up all the time which made it certain that I would never purchase their products.

I signed on with broadband RoadRunner cable. Installed Norton AntiVirus 2004 and Norton Firewall 2004, and never see a popup again.

I do not know if it was RoadRunner that solved problem or Norton since both were used for the first time together after formatting C: and reloading everything for a fresh start.

I've been using Mozilla, Opera and SlimBrowser and have not had a popup in so long I forget what they look like. I only use IE for updates.

He is not connected to the net and still getting pop ups, it's spyware or adware!

Download Adaware and Spybot, their free, update them and then scan. You have files installed on your computer that do that and then they download more files when you are connected to the net, without you knowing it. You will be surprised at how much stuff it will find.

AdAware actually has spyware incorporated into it. You'll notice this the first time you run SpyBot Search & Destroy after installing AdAware.
