pop up offers to clean up mac

if i spend too much time on the web, i get these pop ups announcing that they will now scan my mac for intruders. then they offer to fix these problems.
it says they are mac or apple products. but how do i know this? what if these things are themselves deadly worms or viruses?
so my question is, does anyone else get these things? and has anyone had a happy experience with them?

A quick reply

A quick reply from me until more knowledgeable Mac users answer. I'm a Windows users myself.

Until you know for sure, do not accept anything from these pop up windows.

Whilst Macs generally do not have the virus and malware problems Windows users do, this sounds like a malware attempt.

So, wait and be sure.

Hope that helps.
