New Electric Grid? pish posh
Dec 8, 2010 9:20AM PST

There are lots of battery technologies out there in use or development. Plug in hybrids being recharged either at night when the demand is much lower, or even by solar at the home fed into a storage device that charges the car, while not as efficent still take alot of energy demand off the grid. If the whole world went hybrid tomorrow yeah we would not have enough electricity to meet the demand, but how likely is that to happen.

If everybody had a bloom box at their home to charge their car or store their energy from their solar array, then a significant drain on the grid could be avoided.

Just checking back in ...

... I stumbled onto this old thread that I got involved in right after I bought my Prius and re-read some of it ... so I thought I would post an update ... my Prius is now 4.5 yrs old and has 76k miles on it ... I consistently get about 47mpg in the summer and 44mpg in the winter ... I haven't done the math, but given what gas prices have done since this thread was started, I'd say I'm pretty happy with my decision to buy it (but I'm also glad that I kept my truck as well!).
