Poll: I have Windows updates set to:

I have Windows updates set to:

-- Download and install updates automatically
-- Download, but I manually install (What's your reason for this?)
-- Notify me of updates only (What's your reason for this?)
-- Never check for updates (What's your reason for this?)
-- I don't do Windows

Download & Notify
Oct 10, 2010 10:57PM PDT

I set AU to download the updates in the background and notify me. I have had times when the updates install and I'm busy doing something, then I get annoyed by the "reminder to reboot" that pops up constantly. Letting it download but not install gives me the opportunity to review the updates and decide if there are any that I don't want. I find that this setup saves me the time of going to the site all the time - especially on latptops or tablets that aren't running all the time.

I still visit the Microsoft Update site occasionally so I can install other updates that aren't critical.

Not now, not ever

Reason number one: I don't trust Microsoft. Not now, not ever. Reason number two: I play WoW a lot and don't need the aggravation of an unannounced interruption. Reason three: Just in case they come out with a bad update I'll see something about it online within a day or two and wait until they fix it before I install.
