Backup hard drives
Mar 4, 2011 9:48AM PST

I have two backups which thankfully saved all my data after a complete meltdown. Also back up to Carbonite which I'm really starting to appreciate.

Why?
Mar 4, 2011 9:51AM PST

SCSI Raid box attached that has 3 drives in it. It can take up to 5. Have an IDE and ATA drive. Have found that putting the page/swap file on separate drive from the OS (xp) gives a boost to resources and keeps things running a bit more smooth.

Backup drives
Mar 4, 2011 10:36AM PST

I have two NAS drives with 2 drives each, and a USB drive.
I just kept outgrowing what I had and haven't taken the time to sort out the extras. I'm also a believer in the cloud and have accounts with Google docs and MS Sky Drive.

Interesting to note that there are 103% of replies to this question. Good mathematics.

How many backup hard drives do you currently run?

Since I had 2 six months old Seagate hard drives fail at the same time I now use Carbonite 'cloud' service and run a double RAID system instead of external HDs.

Why Backup, when you can RAID?
I use a 5 drive RAID array for all the stuff that
is important. If you are really paranoid you can
stick a daily/weekly/monthly image of your drives
on it as well (if you use the new 3 Tb drives, that will give you around 12 Tb to play with, WOW!)

1-external HD for complete HD back up; 2&3-thumb drives for data only

I am useing windows 7 pro
Mar 4, 2011 9:28PM PST

I have to back-up every week,so i choose to put a dvd in as when i did it 3 weeks ago it took 5 dvds.
I believe it is just part of windows 7 looking after itself which is really good as my laptop work ok and have getting round to the fact that back-ups are an essencial way forward to keeping your p.c or laptop right and also in good order.

so how does cloud work
Mar 10, 2011 12:37AM PST

would cloud be alright to just do a normal back-up for windows 7 pro,as it's setting is set at every sunday 6.00pm. Now i still have to use dvd disks but not complaints it's just one of those things or is it. Cloud sounds great.

backup drives--none
Mar 5, 2011 12:12AM PST

I use an online backup, Carbonite. I have tried external drives, two different Maxtors and they both failed me. I've used dvd's and each time after the whole thing is finished, I get a message "the last backup failed". I'm hoping to have better luck with Carbonite.

Backups
Mar 5, 2011 4:29AM PST

3 backups. 1 internal for time machine. 2 external, one of which is in the bank box and one to periodically exchange with it. Certain files also back up to thumb drives and/or Dropbox. Some files exist only on multiple thumbs.

Raid 5
Mar 7, 2011 4:06AM PST

I have two PCs one with a single 600 GB SAS drive. The other has a 300 GB drive and three 2 GB SAS dives in a RAID 5 configuration. Both PCs backup to the SAS Raid disks. I use Symantec Backup Exec. I do weekly full backups and daily differential backups. Backup Exec automatically runs the backups and sendse-mail when completed

But windows 7 has it set to back-up every sunday 6.00pm,just thought backing - up every week on to dvds is a bit much,am getting used to buying in loads of dvds now and writing what it tells you to write on the disk, date, time ect.

I currently have a 600GB internal, and use Acronis to do a full back up each morning. New machine out for delivery, and I have a 1TB drive that is going external.
