VoIP is Great!
Nov 7, 2007 3:57PM PST

We use to use embarg. but with the costs of our monthly phone bill in excess of 130.00 a month it was just to costly for us.. When we changed over to LightYear VoIP service for 24.99 we were amazed at the quality and clearity of the service. And it has all the features of the regular phone services like Caller id. call forwarding ,call waiting and even a answering service too, and when were travel we even take our VoIP box with us so we can call anywhere like if we were upstate New York on vacation we can call back home as a local call. and our friends can call us from home as a local call. And my son and wife love it cause now they can call family back up north and talk for hours and don't have to worry about that long distance phone charges any more.. Yes VoIP is great.. My wife and I highly recommend VoIP to anyone.

VoIP is Great! (add on to previous post)

Oh and I forgot to add even if the service goes down we still have cell phones that we use in emergencies. And I will tell you also that we see a lot of people say that they had problems with their VoIP service being down in their posts.. but I will also tell you this when the regular phone lines go down then you also have to go and find somewhere to use a phone to report the problem too. Hense that is why we have cell phones US cellular as backups.. And you also don't necessarily have to use your cable companies phone service either. Even with Mediacom we use Light Year VoIP service.

VoIP and Cell Phone "Back Up"
Nov 11, 2007 4:28PM PST

Cell phones are a great back up to VoIP... if you have a signal.
There do exist places, even in the big city, where there is minimal or no cell phone signal. VoIP is great... until the wind blows and it's out. Yes, the land-line can be knocked out too, but not nearly as easily as the testy VoIP and it takes far less time to get it back up. This is my experience. If I had cell service in my no-signal, 1 mile-wide pocket of the wired city I wouldn't have any other phone. I'm no fan of the standard phone companies, they don't have as good of deals as VoIP. But there's a reason VoIP is cheaper: it's less reliable. We have people in our household who have severe health issues. We simply can't afford not being able to make a call to 911 every time the wind blows.

VOIP telephone service
Nov 16, 2007 5:01AM PST

I have had AT&T's CallVantage (voip)phone service for years, and I just love it. It has every bell and whistle I used to pay over $100 per month for..and more. I have saved a bloody fortune over the past six years, as it costs $28.00 per month bottom line. I receive an email whenever I receive a call, and I can remotely use a computer to check my call log and listen to my messages. The sound quality and reliability are excellent. No one can tell that I am not on a good landline. Very rarely, if the power or internet go down, I lose service for just a little while; but I have a cell phone backup, so it's no big deal. Customer service is very accomodating and prompt, and there is no charge for technical assistance. I have saved $75 per month, multiplied by 12..and then multiplied by 6 (years). I also have SKYPE for overseas conversations, but the voip service is pretty cheap for overseas calls if I need it. Love this product!
