i have a 30" crt based 1080i sanyo that i bought 3 years ago at wally mart for $700. for hdtv (thru cable hd dvr) it is as good a picture as a lot of the expensive dlp, lcd etc. it is large and heavy, can't hang it on the wall but for the value i am pleased. also, wider viewing angle. i do play the audio thru a 5.1 home theater setup.

1. 50" Toshiba RPTV (4 year old CRT type). Still looks fantastic, especially on SD material.
2. 23" Sony Wega LCD (bedroom TV).

When my Toshiba dies I will most likely purchase the 50" or 55" Sony SXRD 1080p set unless something else comes out that's better.

Expense. It's like replacing your refrigerator, then one thing and another until it's a full kitchen remodel. You get the HDTV, then HTIB or more for better audio, then a new DVD player, an upgrade to your DVR of choice, then an HD channel package for programming, and new furniture for it all to sit on... Yikes!

you only live once

you only live once. get one thing at a time pay it off then get the next. if you never start somewhere you will never get any where. i hate to be this honest but if you stay in the past no one will care about how you saved money but you ie it will be like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

dont have hdtv
Jun 9, 2007 2:22AM PDT

would love to have one, but expense is a major factor to retired people on fixed income. to add to that, our daughter became a quadriplegic last year and her care is in our hands. that is a major expense. someday we hope to have one and i keep looking at them and dreaming. maybe by the time we can afford one, the expense will be down as well as the expense of all the add on's needed. they are really something aren't they? wow!! in the meantime the old rca regular t.v. with broken speaker will do. we have a home theatre system that provides the sound. it still has a beautiful picture.

I own 2 - 42" Widescreen Samsung DLP and 36" CRT Toshiba. For me DLP HD is the best, just change the bulb when needed - new TV! Unlike Plasma & LCD which need total replacement.

My analog TV has a great picture. And I only have basic cable. I have seen hdtv on a friend's tv. I think my picture is better. And I don't want another cable box cluttering up my home. I'll wait until everything is integrated in a stand alone tv. And then I'll think about it.

No Thanks.

Had cable. Dropped it. Had Satellite Dish. Dumped it, too. Just too many commercials, too much garbage that they want us to PAY for. There are 8 hours of commercials every day on channels that have commercials. They're the ones who should be paying for the privilege of having them on...not the viewers. I quit. I don't bother with TV anymore.

Samsung 71" DLP 1080P

Works great, and I consider it to be a good buy. I would definitely recommend one with a cable card slot, and also a couple of HDMI inputs along with component TV inputs. Additionally having a second RF input is a good feature too, so you can hook up an external antenna along with you cable connection if you have it. Just a small indoor UHF antenna with about 50 db of gain will give you a good signal with your local channels. I have this in case the cable goes out. You can get an HDTV for about $600 up to many, many thousands, but they will all likely give you a satisfactory picture. With a bigger room, larger sets are more desirable.

If you start out with a less expensive one, you can always update to a larger on in the future and put the initial HDTV into the den or bedroom. Every year, a given dollar expenditure will get you a better TV set than the year before. For what I can see, they just keep getting better and better.

Have a perfectly good working 32" JVC, it has a great picture so I don?t see the benefit in wasting a lot of money just to get a little sharper picture. Maybe if I was starting out from scratch I?d consider it but so far I?m not so impressed that I can say for sure pony up the extra money. As it is i already have a good digital 5.1 surround system, DVD player, DVD recorder, and digital cable. That?s a whole lot of upgrading to do and I?m not convinced it?s worth it. I've heard many brag about how much better it is but feel like they?re either trying to sell something or trying to justify all the money they spent.
