Anyone who thinks that kids should have cell phones, spend one day browsing Photobucket and you will have your answer why they shouldn't. And that is sadly tame compared to other sites they will be visiting when you aren't looking. Not only where Louis's points dead on, but it opens your kids to a rather largely degenerate world where they quickly become self destructive, doing things that they never would have been able to get away with without the phone. And contrary to what you think, you will have no idea what your kids are doing on that thing, unless you only give it to them when you are with them and watch what they are doing while they are on it. Good luck with that, lol. Most likely, while your daughter was in the bathroom or her room, a ton of people will have just seen her naked. Whether she is a underage teen or not, good luck ever getting that image off of the internet now. She will probably be used in ads on some Adult website before very long. That is the very sad state of our "modern" world. The easy access that cell phones have given kids, has quickly destroyed society.
On the other hand, if you feel they absolutely need to have a phone for emergency calls, then they finally made a very, very basic emergency phone that runs off of one AA battery.
To give you a better perspective of this poll, read this CNET article: Louis C.K.: Why I won't let my kids have cell phones
