Apple and AT&T a monopoly~

As a matter of principal I wouldn't buy another iPhone because AT&T did not disclose there would be a $30 per month charge to use Apple's applications. Second, this is clearly a monopoly! Get a lift AT&T and Apple.

Huh?

I bought the original iPhone, then upgraded to 3GS. I have no idea what you're talking about. Nor, I suspect, do you have any idea what you're talking about.

Using your logic isn't Microsoft a monopoly?

AT&T does NOT charge to use Apples apps.
Jun 21, 2010 1:07AM PDT

Apple does, for most of them. Some are free downloads. On their store. AT&T charges for data usage across their network, which by the way, every carrier does. I just heard that Verizon is going to go to tiered data plans also.

I have a cheap cell phone that works just fine

Fair enough
Jun 18, 2010 12:53PM PDT

If all you want a phone for is to make/receive calls, then a cheap phone is all you need. I use my iPhone for calls, but I also use it for a lot more. A cheap phone won't do for me or anyone who wants a handheld computing/internet device that also makes calls.

I have been with AT&T for years, and as they have no plans to introduce 3G or 4g in our area, I have no plans to buy an iPhone. I can get 3G service with a number of other carriers in our area but why would I waste my money on a gadget that I could not use?

What's an iPhone?
Jun 18, 2010 1:20PM PDT

For that matter, what's an apple, if not one of those round fruits?

Come to think of it

I have Sprint for my cell phone. Lots of other have Verizon and other carriers. Why are you asking about a phone that's specific to one carrier? Are you guys trying to push the carrier, the phone manufacturer, or both? Who gives a flying flip about an "iphone"!!!

No iPhone for me.

I wouldn't consider an iPhone linked to AT&T. If Apple does a deal with Verizon, I might consider it.

I Will NEVER, EVER Buy ANY Apple Product
Jun 18, 2010 11:23PM PDT

Apple keeps such an iron-fisted control on the ways their products can be used that I cannot even begin to imagine any circumstances where I would ever purchase a product from them of any kind at any price. And their prices!

Not only do they seem to think that they still own the things you purchase from them, they constantly elevate style over substance and engage in marketing tactics so cleverly manipulative that they border on mass hypnosis. I am not talking about their overt advertising but by their deceptive manipulation of the media to drum up outrageous and totally unjustifiable hype in advance of their release of some "new" product (which is in most cases a restyled version of something that's been around for years and whose patents they have trodden upon).

I do not like the way they do business and I do not deal with user configuration Nazis when I can avoid it. In the case of Apple, I can certainly avoid it, and will continue to do so.

Go to Verizon. Get a Droid Incredible. You will find that dropped calls are something you forget even existed.

Dont have a cell phone and I have two PC's and a lap top and land line at home. How much information do I need? Unless I can see the Mushroom Cloud, I know all is well and life is still good. Happy

Not only do they seem to think that they still own the thing
Jun 21, 2010 12:04AM PDT

You seemed to be the one brain washed! You haven't noticed the Microsoft registration when you load their software. Have you read that long agreement that you agreed to?

Style over substance, I still have every MacIntosh that I've purchased starting with the Mac Plus. Everyone is still working and still doing a task for me. I've never had to repair any of them! Do they have style you bet. Can you say that about any PC product that you have purchased?

- Collapse -
You still need your ancient MacPlus?
Jun 21, 2010 2:18AM PDT

If you still need your old Mac to do a task for you, obviously, one Mac is not good enough to do everything you need. For most PC users, we find the latest PC can do everything the old one does.. and MORE. We don't need to sit in front of an array of PCs to accomplish a simple task, like you say you do, with your Macs.

Not exactly

I guess everyone's experience is different. At home, I have two dead macs and two living Dells, but one very very old and slow, and a living HP. I like to use Macs but, as many repair people will tell you, they tend to break down more than most major PC brands. ( I have stats to back this up and will look for it if pressed).

No, for various reasons, I won't be getting an IPhone. I love their design, however.

iPhone is too expensive for that what it offers
Jun 30, 2010 6:56AM PDT

Lets be honest, the only WOW thing is the retina display, while other manufacturers make phones that are able for full multitasking, have much personalization options, multiple level files, multiple start screens, widgets, video calling over WiFi and 3G,higher resolution cameras(on front and back),long lasting battery life, cheap plans or unlocked, have an open source OS...the iPhone has a retina display, but it has only an 3-5% higher resolution than a Super AMOLED,but has a 30% bigger energy need while the S AMOLED has a higher contrast and needs less energy than a "normal" AMOLED display.A big app store is no excuse for that. And lets be clear-if HTC or Nokia would build a phone like the iPhone 4,people would not make such a big thing about It.

I have had hideous customer service from ATT and was going to use another provider when the iPhone came out. Not only is their customer service horrible, check out how they are involved in American politics. If you are not right winged, you will wonder if your iPhone is worth it.

That said, I love the 4 bc it is so much faster and the battery life is great.

Never have used the talktime feature bc no one I know has a 4.

I think your money situation is the best thing to do in determining if it is worth buying right away.

BTW---if you are dying to get it, most stores seem to sell it regardless of whether your contract is up at the same price you would get when your contract is up. Duh! More money into ATT coffers.
