PointStick for HP NC6000

May 3, 2009 2:24AM PDT

Hi,

I just bought a used HP NC6000. The documentation says it can use a point stick, but the seller didn't have it. I looked all over the web and couldn't find anyone who sells just the stick. Maybe I'm misunderstanding -- what I mean by a point stick is a stylus you use on the touch pad, not a button. Can I get any dumber??!!! Happy

Regards,

Jaina

Pointstick Clarification
May 3, 2009 4:24AM PDT

Hi,

The manual for this machine that I downloaded from the HP site says under the specs in the category named "Pointing Device" that there are "Dual pointing devices (both Pointstick and Touchpad)." I'm trying to find out if the Pointstick is what I think it is, a stylus, and where I can buy a replacement. The Pointstick is used on the Touchpad instead of your finger. I think those blue caps you're referring to in the link are for the little button on the center of the keyboard that works the pointer.

The answer is no.

If you review the links you should reach your answer fast. A stylus is not a HP Pointstick.

I missed the obvious "pointstick" "joystick" reference. Thanks for the clarification. What I would like to get is a stylus pointing device, so I don't have to use my finger on the touchpad. Anyway, seems like I need to do some more research. Thanks to all.

I TESTED STYLUS ON TOUCH PADS and...

I tried my stylus from many PDAs I have and it appears the touch pads want a finger size contact area.

Aren't the touchpads on the vast majority of laptops capacitance sensing, meaning a stylus won't work? Needs a finger, and not even a gloved finger will work. Size isn't the issue.

The pads vary in design so

We can't guess here which they use until a make and model is known.

But one did work with a gummy bear but no stylus worked on the 10 laptops in the office. I was only trying this out of curiousity.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. My husband brought a Dell home from work and I see what a point stick is now. My error. Anyway, I think I'll just get a wireless mouse. Will start a new thread on that.

Thanks again!
