Hi CNET Forum:
Hope it has been a great weekend.
I am wondering if you could please give me some information on Podcasting recording and marketing. I have been away from Podcasting for at least several years/. I was very active when promoting my books.
Can you tell me if my memory is correct on this. I recall when I had a desktop computer and it was Windows XP to record a Podcast all that was needed was recording/editing software and a microphone. You would set the source to "What you here" and record/edit.
I am sure I was informed years ago that if you have a laptop and Windows 7 you could not use any software to record a Podcast excluding something named "Total Recorder" because the other software would no longer recognize "What you here."
Am I correct on this and is it still true for Windows 7/Windows 8? Is this only an issue with a laptop or Desktops for Windows 7/8 as well?
Is there other software that has come out that you can record as you wish?
Finally please I vaguely remember that if you were Podcasting there were a few sites you registered the Podcast so if you uploaded it to a website it would let it be known (I don't recall if the term was pinging). If this is correct where would I register the Podcast and has anything else changed in the last several years (regarding recording/editing/marketing)?
Thank you as always for your time.
All the best,
Craig
