Question

Pocket HD Camcorder with audio level control?

Aug 28, 2013 4:02AM PDT

I am looking to buy a pocket camcorder that has the ability to manually adjust the audio/mic level. I play in a band and would like one that can do this. I was also looking for these features as well...

- optical zoom or a good quality digital zoom
- ability to record to SDHC cards for at least 4 hours of 1080 video
- excellent low light video
- image stabilization

I currently have a Canon HF10 that is great and has all these features, but it's too big to fit in my pocket when I go on vacation. Any help on specific model suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer
Panasonic HC-V700

The 700 and now the 720 have all the features you require. Manual control of the audio is an option in manual mode. a 32Gb SDHC card will give you 4 hours of recording, the camera will work down to 3 lux and has optical image stabilisation.

Panasonic HC-V700 - New!

Thanks for the suggestion, but it looks like that camera (although nice quality one with all the features I need) is the same size as my Canon HF-10. I was hoping to find something even smaller that will fit into my pocket.

Action cams

Perhaps the Panasonic "Action cams" would be a better choice. Have a look at the HX-WA30 for example.

Manual audio control

Having suggested the action cam I do not think it has manual audio control or a mic input. My HC-V700 fits into my pocket with no problem - just a big pocket!
