PN50a650 1080P upconversion?

Dec 22, 2008 4:55AM PST

I bought this set last week and love it. I was looking for specific information on what ports if any get upconverted to 1080p but can't find it. My DVD-HD841 has 1080i output on the DVI port (I think). Most HD shows on DTV are 720 or 1080i on the HDMI cable. I'm just wondering if the TV can be setup to help out.

I also own the LN40a750 and love that one. Both are top notch.

80004,

Thanks for your kind words.

All signals actually get processed and converted up to the panel's maximum resolution. If you're watching a 480 signal on the PN50A650, it will display that picture at 1080p, no exceptions. If you are watching 1080p content, it will be shown also at 1080p, no exceptions.

So in essence, your DVD-HD841 may output at 720p 1080i (and that can be found in the Setup Menu of the DVD player), but it will always display as a 1080p picture.

Does that make sense?

I just couldn't find that stated anywhere. Now I need to save up for a BD-P2500.
