PN42A450 freaking out

by trirunner / November 22, 2009 10:41 AM PST

I've had my PN42A450 for over a year now with no issues at all. Yesterday it started acting up -- it basically looks like it's cycling through, getting continuous input. For example, if I have the cable input selected, it cycles continuously up from channel to channel -- 1, 2, 3, etc. If I select "menu" from the screen, it's continuously cycling through the options. It doesn't respond to the remote at all. And it I have it receiving input from our Tivo unit, it continuously displays " (i) Not available at this time."

Any ideas? Seems like if I could do a reset to the TV unit itself (without using the remote) it might do the trick. I've tried disconnecting everying (including the power) and leaving over night, hoping that it would reset, but to no avail.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Adam

trirunner,

It sounds almost as if the buttons on the bezel may be reacting to something nearby (or internally). Register your television online (to get an extra three months for U.S. customers) and then see if you can get your unit inspected.

My tv is doing the same thing! I also tried powering it down and it didnkt work.
Did you get it figured out or fixed? My roomate wants to take it to get it fixed but i'd like to make sure there's nothing I can do first.
I've been scouring the samsung website but I haven't seen anything like this mentioned. My tv won't respond to any remotes and only the power button is the only thing on the tv that actually works correctly.
The volume and channel buttons don't work at all, and the source and menu buttons seem to interchange functions when you press one of them.

My tv was working perfectly then all of a sudden this happens and I can't get anything to work. Please help!

I couldn't figure it out, so we had the repair folks over. Apparently there was an internal "button" that was stuck, which is why it was getting continuous inputs. It's nothing that could be accessed from the outside, so it's a good thing we were under warranty. If you've got the same problem, you probably need to take it in. Sorry!

trirunner,

Registering your product online (U.S. customers only) will also get you an additional 3 months of warranty. So if you haven't done that, do that before calling the service center.

Just a friendly tip.

Glad to hear your unit was fixed.
