I don't know of any camera that performs equally well as a still camera and a camcorder.

Digital Cameras treat the video as if it were an afterthought.
Camcorders treat still pictures as if they were an afterthought.

The Digital camera will provide OK video but the sound quality is usually poor and it may/may-not have continuous focus and/or the optical zoom may not work while making a video.

The Camcorder is best for Video but can produce still pictures, however you have little control over exposure.
The still pictures will usually be OK but not much more.
There is no flash on a Camcorder.

For the best results you need a Camcorder and a Digital Camera.

If you only want to carry one camera, ask yourself if video is more important or still pictures are more important.

For questions on Camcorders you should post your questions on the Camcorders Forum:

A tip on small still cameras....avoid any 16 Mega-pixel camera (MP).
The 16 MP sensor is noisy and the camera manufacturer has to be aggressive with the noise reduction firmware to get rid of some of the noise. That also gets rid of the fine detail in the picture.
Avoid any small camera with more than 14MP.
