DSL can do that. There are some million posts on DSL so I don't want to add much but keep it short.
For DSL I don't want to have a large number of phone outlets in the home. In fact the best DSL run is what they call a HOME RUN. (DSL Techs know what this is)
Remember all about how to wire DSL is out there so again I keep it short. I unplug ALL devices from the phone lines save the lone modem. I try it on another jack and be sure the line is the one that came with the modem. A filter is not used on the modem connection (whoops, repeating the web there.)
Hi this might sound really odd but i just don't know what the deal is here.
Ok so i have some crappy internet at the moment, downstream rates of as low as 200kbps, when its working fine i should be getting 3.5 to 3.9mbps.
I have a Netgear 2200 router and I am with the ISP Dodo. Dodo have sent me an egineer before and fixed a prior problem on the exchange.
The result from part of that investigation deduced that I had a crap dsl filter which was robbing me of speed (not the source of the prior issue though).
Hence i have been using my router with the dsl plugged straight into the wall with no dsl filter which is fine as we dont really use the land line.
its been fine for months but the past few weeks its been crap again, fluctuating wildly and dropping.
I got back onto my isp and they are gonna send me another modem to test and rule that out, but in the mean time i noticed something very odd and i can get it to happen consistently and I was hoping somebody out there might have a clue.
SO in unplugged the dsl cable from the wall plug and plugged in my cordless phone to listen to the dials tone to see if there was any noise on the line while talking to tech support. there was no noise. I removed the phone plug and plugged the dsl back in and hung up the call (mobile) to tech support.
It was then that I noticed that the donwtream stats on my router had jumped up to 3000kbps+ again having been 200kbps prior to this.
I have managed to repat this 5 times in a row over the past few hours. each time the downstream remains stable for a time but gradually degrades over several hours until i repeat the process.
What the heck could it be?
be very grateful for your help folks.
