Screen going black seems like a video card problem.
Do you have a spare laying around to test?
Could be bad/failing RAM too. Could be alot of things.
Try pulling hardware devices out and reinstalling one by one.
List your computer specs here, will help to narow down problems.
Ahh, the joys of computer repair!
When my computer started yesterday, it acted strange - for one thing, window came up asking for Windows name and password as if it had just been installed or something. The desktop was huge and off-color and there was no cursor. However, there was a cursor when I started it in safe-mode.
I've run scandisk and virus scan. My son suggested I install Windows again so I did that but when it was "Updating System" it stopped at 3 minutes and would not go any further. After restarting several times, I was finally able to bypass system update and get to desktop. Whenever I try to change desktop settings, the second I click the "settings" button, my screen goes completely black.
Whenever I restart it, I get a message saying the file, SYMEVNT.386 is not loaded and I may have to reinstall NAV. I did uninstall and reinstall NAV but it did not help. I continue to get this message and a window which says NAV is not protecting my computer.
Does anyone know what is happening and what I can do about it?
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
