I saw it too. It looks stupid. If they want to advertise, then put the images on CNET's server. Then Adblock and Hosts files won't block their ads.

Rick
on other people's systems, but not mine.
I find it extremely annoying.
Mark
It's a PITA. I'm getting really perturbed at the ads here in the forum. First, they expand to take the entire screen. Then they lock and they can't be closed. Now they show up in the middle of the tree. I'm really tired of this.
I've been a member since the nineties and I've put up with a lot. But this is getting tiring.
That's what they want. Next they'll be putting the advertisements on the page upside-down or even sideways. They got you attention to read the advertisements.
No, Adblock doesn't block the new advertisement, just the picture of the phone. Adblock blocks the images at the top of the page above the search forums and below the tabbed indexes.
Use this with adblock & adblock plus, it helps it.

...worse, those even suddenly have a sound file blurt out of your speakers when you least expect it. Quite startling and infuriating since you then turn off your PC sound system, even though you did want maybe to hear other things such as stock alerts, etc.
I am finding this offensive add in both Firefox 2.0.0.11 and Internet Explorer 7... so this seems not to be browser specific.
In my opinion no one seems to be "minding the store" at CNet Forums. I have noticed this more and more in recent weeks. Hardly ever will you see a response to Feedback Forum comments by the Administrator. Maybe the budget has once again been cut ![]()
Just my opinion and observation.
Glenn
but do not know what an "Add Feedback Button" is or where to find it. Could someone give little more precise directions?
Thanks!
Glenn
ad, right above where it says "Palm Centro only $99.99" is a blue link that says "ad feedback". Click on that and it should take you to a CNET feedback page, Just fill out the form. Only takes a minute.
No wonder I am confused... that blue link that says "ad feedback" is missing from my screen. What the "cat hair" is going on???? ![]()
Thanks for responding.
Glenn
Using Internet Explorer 7 the Ad Feedback link does appear but not in Firefox 2.0.0.11. Followed the directions in IE7 to zap it but didn't work.
Just updating anyone having an interest.

It disappears in Firefox if you use Adblock to block i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/Ads/*
Kees
For some reason that does not work for me. I am using AdBlock Plus and copied and pasted the link... i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/Ads/*
The link is now listed in AdBlock Plus but nothing happens. This get more confusing and annoying all the time! ![]()
Thanks.
Glenn
Copy/paste won't work, unless you add http:// in front. If you just use the regular (right-click to add, right click to edit) way it should work. Anyway, it works with me, I just checked again by removing and adding it again.
The full thing to block is http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/Ads/*
Hope this helps.
Kees
for the help but I am still having no success. Maybe it has something to do with my operating system (Vista).
Anyway it's not your problem and I thank you for the help. I will give CNet a few days to correct this boondoggle and if nothing happens I'm leaving. Been here a long time but this is too much! ![]()
Glenn
If you are using Adblock Plus, just add:
... to the list.
A couple of times I thought it for a moment meant the end of the page.
Horrible !!!
Angeline
It really is annoying and makes the forums look less professional. I like how CNET has their own software for the forums and not some universal software that all other websites seem to use.
CNET, don't destroy the forums with ads!
To Mods: Does anyone have any contact with an Administrator or Executive to talk about this?
a holiday but they WILL be notifed tomorrow for sure.
It's just put into the html-code, somewhat like this:
[!-- MAC ad -->
[div id="ad_infoboard_box">
[div class="ad_infoboard_header" style=""> [/div>
[div class="ad_infoboard_body">[table class="ad_infoboard_table">
[tr>[td class="ad_infoboard_logo_left">[a ... picture ...>[/a>
[td class="ad_infoboard_content" align="center">
[div class="ad_infoboard_content_top">[a ... picture ...>[/a>
[div class="ad_infoboard_content_mid">This is the text of the ad.
[div class="ad_infoboard_content_bot">[a ... picture ...>[/a>
[/tr>
[/table>
[div class="ad_infoboard_footer">[p> [/div]
They certainly knew what they did. All you can do is block the pics from adlog.com.com, but the text is just text like any other text on the page. That's smart.
Kees
No pix, no text. FF & AdBlock Plus. Not sure how, but I am not seeing these ads at all, so it can be done.
Perhaps a custom CSS thing? I have that Style Sheet created by C1ay I think it was?
I don't see anything in C1lay's style sheet that would affect the ad, and throwing it into my settings didn't remove it. Also, AdBlock is only able to block images, links, and frames, which would remove parts of the ad but not its entirety. Do you have any other blockers in effect?
John
P.S. Try a tech forum to see if it pops up there...SE, FF, and others are generally excluded.
