Get the disk out, put it into your PC or in in external enclosure, and copy those files to your internal hard disk (and from there to your backup, of course).
Only you can tell if this is something you can do yourself.

I want to start by saying i am not very tech savy so please forgive me!
I have a really old laptop which i think got a virus and died. I just chucked it in the cupboard and forgot about it. I just found it when having a clean out and was wondering if there is any way i can fix it to keep any photos etc that were on it.
Basically what happenes when i turn it on is the Toshiba logo comes up then it goes to a black screen with a curser on it. Ive tried going into safe mode but it doesnt work - just goes straight to this black screen. Is there any way of fixing this myself?
Thanks in advance
