Please help with notebook selection

Jan 21, 2005 5:11AM PST

I am trying to decide upon a notebook. Now have a Dell Deminsion 4100 desktop. (would love to upgrade the destop to something that can use xp or os) Regarding the notebook... I now have internet access through high speed cable. Would like to have a notebook that can wirelessly access the cable as well as files on desktop. Use quicken, office, and have lots of photos on computer. Also I travel a lot and need wireless internet access and a notebook that doesn't weight a ton. A fast processor is important to me. Also I plan on getting an Ipod 20 GB. Any suggestions?

thinkpad t series

for a laptop that is intended to have full mobility i would go with a thinkpad t series from IBM... you can go to their website and find alot of different setups already made but i would point out that if you want to put 20 gb of music on there (to fill your ipod) and store lots of photos you should for sure upgrade to the 60gb hard drive and consider going with the 80 if you intend to have that many pictures on there. the one and only real complaint i have with this laptop is that it takes away 8gb of storage to use only for backup and system restore... which may end up saving you but i just dont like that you are forced to give up that HD space. this laptop is though, in my humble opinion, the leader in mobile laptops that can still functionally replace a desktop.

Check out Dell 6000 - brand new model with Sonoma (Centrino)
Jan 21, 2005 6:23AM PST

Look at the brand new Dell 6000 as that is the only mainstream notebook out so far with the upgraded Intel Sonoma Centrino update (just updated 1/19/05) -- see page one of Cnet.com for the Sonoma update article and the Dell 6000 is pictured there as they really jumped the gun and got this model out before everyone else.

The new Sonoma Pentium M's have a faster bus speed, faster integrated video, faster RAM, improved audio, new chipset, etc.
