Please help with hard ware double-input bug...

This has really started driving me insane. I don't know what to do any more. At first it seemed to be my mouse doing it mostly but now I'm double typing letters despite not having done so intentionally, and even having moments where input seems to be ignored, like going back and forth between these two oddities.

I've tried getting a new mouse back when that seemed to be the issue in my mind, but that didn't help (the new mouse is nice though.) I also got a new mechanical keyboard recently because I wanted to have a nice gaming keyboard. If anything that made me feel like this double keypress input suddenly became prominent and easily noticeable. I don't know what it could be, a virus, some oddity with Windows 10, or something else, but I'm genuinely being driven crazy here. Even though the computer is a couple years old I'm beginning to think I might need to buy a new one just in case, though that'll be expensive as hell. Please guys, what is going on? Is it Windows 10? A virus? A hardware issue? Does anyone else here know what I could be dealing with? I have NEVER had this happen to me before in my 20+ years of using computers. I'm begging you guys, help me figure this out...

Boot from a Linux disc or stick (free to make) and try there. It comes with LibreOffice and it's word processor is a perfect test for the keyboard. If it's fine in Linux, it's not hardware.

try booting to safe mode to see if you still have the problem. if not, then it is a software issue. also if you really want help, how about providing the full model number of the computer you are using.

We ask for PC details from time to time. You have an unique issue that I don't see on over 100 Windows PCs at the office and the KB issue doesn't appear to be a factor here so in short, it is up to you to work with others supplying as much as you can to work your issues.

since we are not sitting in front of your computer we need the info to see exactly what hardware in in the laptop, to see if it is a common issue for the specific model, to see if there may be driver or firmware updates at the manufacturers website that might deal with the issue and for other reasons.

It is up to you whether or not you want to provide the info but without it, you may not be able to get the help you need. In fact without knowing the info, some help suggestions might do more harm than good.

the model number will give that info. just go to the manufacturers website and look it up. It will give it in the specifications. also you can use belarc advisor

Sorry for the late reply, been a bit busy.

First and foremost, it's a desktop computer.

I *think* it's a brand, of the iBUYPOWER make. I bought it from Best Buy, but it has their logo and stuff on it. The model being "i-series 506" if the sticker is to be believed. It's a couple years old by now, but it sold with a GTX 1060 in it, which was the main thing. I also have its serial number here, is that at all relevant?

If I take the entire story I'd sum it up to:

1. Try Kees tests.
2. Try a boot to safe mode with networking (how is on the Internet.)
3. BE SURE TO NOT INSTALL ANY SOFTWARE THAT COMES WITH A MOUSE OR KEYBOARD. AVOID THAT UNTIL IT'S WORKING AND TRY TO DO WITHOUT.
4. If you did install such, uninstall.

This computer doesn't even have a disc drive. The only thing that installs with these pieces of hardware are the drivers to make them function when I plug them in.

What is the Kees test thing? The only thing google brings up is something related to Kentucky.

(Also another thing I've noticed is it repeats keys after I've already typed something else, for example "it's" would output as it's' with the extra apostrophe. Double spacebar also seems to happen too.)

If you are using the native Windows drivers and getting double input then either the repeat rate on the keyboard is too fast or there is a hardware issue.

Kees noted the Linux test (which I use a lot) and I added the safe mode with networking.

I get the feeling you don't want to do any testing and just want it fixed. If so a repair counter might be the next move. Here we tend to try a few tests to get the best shot at a fix to avoid a factory reset.

I just don't have a USB at the moment, I'd have to go out and buy one... I actually tried the input thing in the control panel when I looked that up before posting here. As far as I could tell, that one didn't seem to solve anything, it still did it at about the same rate as before.

With a boot to safe mode then I have to write it's hardware issue. Test this keyboard on another PC as noted above.

Sometimes folk can't do any of the work, which forces them to take it in. This includes all that was mentioned here but the story so far points to hardware unless it works in Linux.

What I had tried was the keyboard double press input thing adjustment, which didn't seem to affect it at all. I'll try and get a safe mode boot later tonight when I have time.

A slight update

I tried using my old membrane keyboard and I haven't had that "double input" issue I had with my mechanical keyboard, if that enlightens anything. I'm not entirely sure if I'm hitting the wrong key or not with mistypes like writing the word cat and instead having cta or something, but this double input issue seems to be related to a mechanical keyboard, at least in part. My problem with click lag or click non-input that I've been dealing with far longer is still there. It's not constant but I think it's related to my old problems.
