and there are more:
I have a new computer with Windows XP on it. I purchased this computer from a friend who only owned it for 4 months, but didn't like it. I have noticed that in several places her name appears (i.e. cookies, documents and settings). I would like to replace this information with my own name etc. Is this a matar of registration? What do I need to do to remove the previous users info?
In the control panel go to users then either rename the account or make a new one and delete the old one. Go here to find out how to rename it. If you want to make a new one and delete the old one. IMPORTANT:BEFORE YOU DELETE ANY ACCOUNT, MAKE SURE TO BACK UP ALL IMPORTANT DATA YOU WANT TO SAVE. This incluces exporting your favorites in Internet Explorer, exporting your address book if you use Outlook Express, and any personal files, such as pictures or mp3 or word processor files etc. that are in my documents when logged into the old account. The account files are in C:\Documents and Settings\user name, if you ever delete an account you want to go there and look around to see what you want to save.
Thanks for the suggestions. It did not change what I wanted it to though. I think I have narrowed down the item that needs changing. It is whatever part of windows provides the name for C:\Documents and Settings. A windows file named Mary Brown.CPQ14954210161 is the item which is still in someone elses name.
When I open this folder it contains cookies, favorites etc. I tried renaming the folder, it said that it is a windows system folder and is a necessaary file for windows to function properly, so it can not be removed or renamed. Thanks again!!
