please help me turn my close-captioning off!

by ecommerceman / November 1, 2009 1:04 AM PDT

We've never used closed-captioning before, but our dog-sitter apparently did something either to our Samsung TV or our Tivo box so that the closed-captioning won't go off. When I hit the "caption" button on the Samsung remote, a message comes on that says "Not Available in the Current Mode." I've also tried touching the TV's "Menu" button, and tried the "input," "picture," "sound," and "setup," but haven't been able to find the magic solution. Please help!

ecommerceman,

The captioning is probably turned on in the source - the boxes. Try to see if there's a toggle that you can turn off at the source.

Thanks--that was indeed the right answer

I'd thought that the dogsitter had hit an obscure button on my TV remote, but it turns out that she had--apparently purposely--turned on "closed-captioning" on with the Tivo remote (maybe she's hard of hearing, I don't know). Once I discovered that, it was simple to change it back. Anyway, thanks for the advice!

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
