Too Far Away To Tell

Working in the field of entomology for a number of years, with a good picture, I might be able to identify the bug..... but the picture you've provided is not close enough. Different types of lice, bedbugs, termite frass or larvae, mealybugs from nearby plants, or other critters could be the culprit but it's impossible to say without a close-up pic and a better description of where the devices were stored.

That said, YES, if the electronics had sufficient numbers of such insects, they can short things out.. I've seen termite nests and fire ant accumulations in electronic boxes that totally fouled up the works. Get rid of them as soon as possible.

Hope this helps.
