Please help! Dos. Boot Infector virus on my computer!

by firewire / July 3, 2004 4:41 AM PDT

Hi, I ran a BitDefender virus scan last night and it quarantined a Dos.Boot Infector virus. The file is showing as: A0000120.COM and it can't be disinfected or deleted.
I've just been checking on the net and it looks nasty. Thankfully I've not used any diskettes yet (my computer is almost new). I'm worried because it says it can ruin your hard drive and it can be very destructive if you try to remove it manually.
Please could someone help? I've only had my computer for less than two weeks and I've ensured that all the Microsoft updates were applied, plus I'm using an anti-virus and firewall program.

Thanks in advance for any replies. Happy

Just adding. I have just checked with Hijack This and there is an entry called 'Sockspy.dll' showing. I'm sure it wasn't on the log last time I checked. :/

It's gone! I decided to run another virus scan first and spotted that the infected file was actually in the restore volume files. I disabled System Restore to purge all the old files and then switched it back on and did another virus scan. My computer is now clean! Grin

Thanks for your help anyway. Happy
