Hi,
For the last 2 weeks this annoying problem has suddenly cropped up on my pc.
On booting, everything is pretty fast but once i enter my account pwd and hit enter,my desktop(i.e the wallpaper) appears instantly but the icons and taskbar take up close to a minute to load up!My boot is pretty lean with only my anti virus and one other program being in the startup.i've checked the registry and msconfig. This issue just started happening 2 weeks back.
My pc is Athlon xp 2400+,80gb 7200rpm,256mb ram,Win xp pro sp2.
Please help....

Go to My Computer > C: Drive > Documents and Settings > [your] Username > Local Settings > Application Data > IconCache.db > delete the contents > reboot the computer. It [may] take a day or two for the file to rebuild.

Or, boot the computer into Safe mode, then into normal mode.
