Reg restore from another system..........
May 27, 2005 6:10AM PDT

Each registry is special to each system. A data base of memory locations, devices, applications, settings.

You may want to down load and burn a copy of knoppix.
This is a self boot Linix O/S on a CD it will allow you to burn your important file to CDs.

(Not going to offer slaving H/D to a working Computer)

Two recovery methods

1. Last Known Configuration That Worked

2. Boot with XP CD, follow prompts for Windows Repair.
Use only the orginal install XP CD any other installiton CD will lock you out of the system and a clean re-install will have to be preformed.

regarding knoppix.
May 27, 2005 6:24AM PDT

i clicked on the link that you provided and there are lots of files...which one do i have to download?? thanks.

Also:

1. Last Known Configuration That Worked

THIS DOENST WORK EITHER...IT RESTARTS AND COMES BACK TO THE SAME SCREEN

2. Boot with XP CD, follow prompts for Windows Repair.
Use only the orginal install XP CD any other installiton CD will lock you out of the system and a clean re-install will have to be preformed.

I dont have the original xp cd from microsift...but my friend gave me a burned copy...he said it works like original...he said its something like iso...would it work?

thanks for the replay...

knoppix Download
May 27, 2005 6:38AM PDT

Knoppix V3.8.1-2005-4-08-en.iso for download.

Bob P knows this O/S and may be able to provide you with ways to recover the registry or accessing system restore.

Wound up doing a total re-install last time I attempted a repair to Windows with out the orginal disk. I will not even attempt to boot to the recovery consul w/o out the orginal CD, don't want to get burned twice. Others may of had better luck, but I would not attempt such.

Knoppix ISO image burned to CD
May 27, 2005 7:44AM PDT

Creates a bootable, stand alone operation system that is loaded in memory allowing access to your hard drive for recovery. Google Knoppix for instructions on use.

this is an option
May 27, 2005 8:32AM PDT

i dont know much about restoring the register of windows.
but if u have a secordary disk drive in your system i would make it a master and reinstall winxp from scratch.
u probably thought of that before i know its time consuming. but its an option.

Any one going to help
May 27, 2005 9:56PM PDT

Yes, No, Maybe.......

Not trying to be nasty or mean. But you must take some responsibilty in correcting your issue. Questions like ''I have downloaded Knoppix, do I burn it to a CD'' will not get you any help. Questions that clarify your thoughts will bring Help.

So your next step would be to burn Knoppix to a Disk. Using Nero as an example your will burn a Disk Image or Saved Project.

Then place CD in damaged system and boot. At desktop open the help file and read on how to copy to a CD.

For Knoppix you run K3b.
May 28, 2005 10:29AM PDT

If you've used Nero, it will be easy.

Try the K3b cd writing program....
May 28, 2005 10:37AM PDT

on the System tab of the "K" icon, bottom left on the desktop.

Knoppix takes some getting used to since you are no longer in the world of Windows, that's why I suggest my alternative to Knoppix. Look in your other post.

k3b

Try 1/2 the files
May 28, 2005 11:08AM PDT

You could have run out of RAM. If you are running KNOPPIX for this, don't run anything but the one thing you need. Close other windows.
