PLEASE HELP! AC Adaptor does not power HP Pavilion ze5200

Jan 19, 2005 4:14PM PST

Therefore I lose power constantly and the notebook immediately goes into hibernation. I'm switching wall outlets constantly.

A Warning message always tells me to switch from battery power to AC power, but the AC adaptor is already plugged into the wall.

The battery is always colored green, so I don't think there is a problem with the plug and battery connection. I think the problem exists between the AC adaptor connector and the actual computer.

Could I replace that connector and its adjoining connections? BTW The connector also feels a little loose. It's not normal I'm assuming.

Common problem
Jan 19, 2005 8:50PM PST

This problem is common on all notebooks.. Known as bad or open solder joints. The repair requires disassembly of the unit, And the resoldering of the connector to the board. (Sometimes also replacement of the connector). If you are an avid solderer and have no fear of tearing the unit down this isnt too complicated a procedure.. If you need help feel free to ask!

Easy in comparison

If youre comparing to say a 100 pin IC replacement? Its easy as pie. Its not difficult just need some patience and mechanical aptitude along with the ability to solder. (this is not hard either I'm teaching my 9 year old son to do it) If you'd like to have a crack at it and want us to help walk you through it just yell! Weve done this on quite a few occasions and its been fun to do. Get a 25 Watt pencil style soldering iron, A roll of solder wick, (Also known as desoldering braid),Some fine electronics solder, And a cheap DVM is handy to have.. (Digital volt ohm meter, Good for verifying the job prior to reassembly) These can be purchased at radio shack inexpensively. You dont need an expensive meter so do not let them try to talk you into somthing more complex or costly. A small phillips screwdriver is also needed on this model and you may want to get a T-9 torx screwdriver.. (some compaqs and HP's have this style screw). Let us know when youre ready!
