There may not be anything you can do
Aug 3, 2014 11:37PM PDT

There may not be anything you can do. Assuming you own the sterianosengineering domain, the spammer basically put your "info" email address as the reply-to header. You could do that with any email client and it doesn't require any kind of malware have been installed.

But one question is do you run your own outgoing email server? If so, make sure it requires a username and password to send messages, otherwise it's what's known as an open relay and spammers do a little happy dance every time they find one of those.

In any event... If you're a small business and can't afford a regular IT person, that means you get to be the IT person and there's frankly no excuse for you having not buckled down and started learning these things. It's one of those things, like you probably had to learn a fair bit about accounting and doing the books for your business and all the regulations of your area you have to abide by. Or how home owners need to learn to be a bit of a handyman and able to fix a clogged toilet or do other minor repairs about the place. This is the same sort of deal and you're now getting a first-class example of what happens if you don't. Whomever is ultimately in control of the business is the one who is ultimately responsible for making sure they know everything needed to make the business run smoothly OR hiring people who can handle that part of the business for them. So if you can't afford to hire an IT person, I would strongly suggest you get cracking on learning the IT side of your business. This will most definitely not be the last time you have problems like this.

Re: e-mail
Aug 3, 2014 11:43PM PDT

I agree the reply-to email-address says nothing.

But I also read in the header:
- Received: from [176.51.104.221] (port=63418 helo=sterianosengineering.co.za)
- by cloud9.skywits.net with esmtpa (Exim 4.82)
- (envelope-from <email&gtWink
So of that IP-address is his own, it comes from his own PC, not from a PC somewhere in India.

You agree with that?

Kees

Spybot
Aug 4, 2014 10:43PM PDT

Thanks Jimmy Greystone and Kees_B for the info.

Our business website control panel password has been captured. I am going to run spybot on our computer and then my Uncle is going to delete the hosting account and recreate it, so that I can log back in and change the password so that our e-mail doesn't get spam.

That's all rather unclear.
Aug 4, 2014 10:53PM PDT

And it's a bad idea to put an email address in a forum like this. Spam bots will find it, and you'll get a lot of spam.
I'll ask to have it removed.

Spybot is a little outdated. Try this instead.

Thank You All

Thank You All for all the information!

This is what we did to stop the 6000 and more spam emails from coming into our microsoft outlook e-mail account.

1. Hosting account was deleted and recreated
2. All the information on our business website went back to prior October 2013
3. I ran spybot
4. I login to our website control panel and changed the password.

The company hosting our website send us this;

"It looks like the user " our e-mail address" has had their login details captured, which is usually the cause of malware: -auth_id "our e-mail address." Please have the user first scan all computers which access e - mail for malware and once deemed clean, please then reset the password using cPanel's "E - Mail Accounts" area"

I'd delete that malware on your PC that sends it.

Since it seems to be business, let your IT guy handle it. The usual way in a business environment is re-imaging the PC.

How to remove Malware?
Aug 3, 2014 10:00PM PDT

Hi Kees_B

We small business we can't afford to hire an I.T guy. I am my fathers I.T guy. Is there anyway to remove this malware without restoring our computer back to factory settings again?

Why?
Aug 3, 2014 10:15PM PDT

We have two emails addresses we use inside Microsoft Outlook Express why is only one getting this 6000 Mail Delivery failure?

Re: why

Because the malware picked it to send the spam?

Re: remove malware

Not different from any other malware.
There's your antivirus, there are anti-virus cd's and there are the programs mentioned in from http://forums.cnet.com/7726-6122_102-5509131.html?tag=posts;msg5509131
Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. If not, going back to factory conditions is a good solution.

By the way, using Outlook Express (there's no program called Microsoft Outlook Express) is not supported in Windows 7. In fact, installing is quite difficult in anyt version of Windows later than XP (and there it was included, so there was no need to install it). Why did you do that? Or isn't it Outlook Express? As your fathers IT specialist, you surely know.

By the way, I assumed that 176.51.104.221 is your external IP-address. If it isn't, those mails are not coming from your PC, and you can't do anything about it except changing the password of the mail-account so nobody else can use it to send spam from his own PC. Changing the password woudn't harm anyway.

Need Help Still Please?
Aug 6, 2014 8:53PM PDT

Hi All,

The following was done to get rid of all the spam coming into our Microsoft outlook inbox.

1. Operating system and office re-installed on our computer
2. Spybot and then anti virus was run
3. Hosting account for e-mail address was deleted and recreated. Because of this all the information on our business website went back to prior October 2013
4. I then logon to our website control panel and changed the password.

We are getting no more spam now in our Microsoft Outlook 'inbox' folder

However we are now getting lot of spam in our Microsoft outlook 'Junk E-mail' folder.

How can I stop us from getting a lot of spam in our Microsoft outlook 'Junk E-mail' folder?

Best regards James

Re: spam
Aug 6, 2014 9:03PM PDT

That's what the junk mail folder is for.

All you can do:
1. Ask the senders of those spam to not send it any more.
2. Change your e-mail adress. This has to be done with the e-mail provider. The obvious disadvantage is that you won't see any legitimate mail to the old address either.
3. Make ruiles so the junk mail isn't moved to the junk mail folder but to another folder or stays in the inbox. Or that anything send to the junk mail folder is deleted automatically..

Hi Kees_B

Thanks for the information!

How would exactly step by step be able to "3. Make rules so the junk mail isn't moved to the junk mail folder but to another folder or stays in the inbox. Or that anything send to the junk mail folder is deleted automatically.."
