General discussion

Please give me some feedback, show me the flaws!

System components:
Hatachi 50V500 720P TV
DirecTv DVR (hughes HR10-250) 180Gb
Sony receiver STR-DE998
Sony SLVD-300P combo DVD/VHS(I know, why VHS? The kids)
Yamaha speakers NS-P436 HTiB
DirecTv HD programing package

Room size 11' x 11' tiny, not many options here!

I also recently found a 38'' oval dish that matches the proportions of my present directv oval - a consideration for the future. (may reduce "rain fade")

All of the equipment listed above I found to total $3700US, (accepting the programing package $11US/ month).

Flaws?

If your looking for the weakest link.... speakers.
The Sony receiver has enough power to drive a better speaker system. Even though the room is small, good speakers (they don't have to be large) will make a world of difference in detail, clarity and overall enjoyment.

I would agreee with the other guy. How low of a frequency can your sub handle? I'm pretty sure the human ear can appreciate much lower sounds than that sub can put out Happy
I think a good sub/speaker setup can mean the difference between:

"hey joe, thanks for having us over for a movie"

and....

"holy crap joe!!! I'm coming here instead of the theater next time"
