Playstation 3 On Ebay: Whats The Story??????

Feb 20, 2007 2:59AM PST

I was looking for a unit before buying one Saturday and see that quite a few are BIDDING at $1500.00 and more! These HAVE BIDS! Does anyone have any idea what the SCAM is on this? Gotta be a scam since nobody would ever drop 1500 bucks on a PS3.

You never know...

Such is almost always fueled by demand. Right after the initial launch there was a shortage of PS3s, leading some to purchase them for $600 and then resell them online for several times that. Now it's usually not that difficult to order a PS3 locally here in the US, but some people living in other countries may be willing to pay top dollar for a PS3, especially if they live in a region in which Sony is shipping few, if any, units. It could just be a scam, but I wouldn't rule it out as being illegitimate just yet.

If you look at the auctions you see DOZENS of PS3's selling at 600 bucks. Then there are 4 or 5 selling at $1500.00! Somethings up here!

Some people like to inflate bids on things like new video game consoles and then not pay the price when they win. Lots of people did it for the 360 and I'm sure people did it for the PS3 and Wii.

I don't see the point in buying a PS3 on ebay now though...I see anywhere between 4-10 units in every store on the shelves now. The Wii is still selling out here though.
