Playing Hidden Tracks on CD

by countgiff / March 12, 2008 10:42 AM PDT

Hi,

I have a CD that has some "hidden" tracks which my stereo doesn't seem to recognize. These hidden songs are numbered -1 and -2, as they appear on the track list as the first two songs on the disc. When I pop the disc in the stereo, it starts at Track 1, and I can't seem to get it to go back and detect these hidden songs.

This is a Sony rack system -- a very nice home stereo system -- that is at least 15 years old.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can listen to these hidden songs? Is my stereo just too old? Or is there some trick to getting these?

Thanks in advance!

Try a different CD player
by Dan Filice / March 12, 2008 10:48 AM PDT

My guess it's your older CD player. I have a couple of CDs with hidden tracks and they play if I start the track prior to and let the CD player play, but it won't detect the tracks if I try to skip to them. I think they're made that way. Heck, I guess if I could easily skip to the tracks, they wouldn't be "hidden". I put these CDs in my computer and used software to record when the "hidden tracks played, then I was able to go back and import the select songs and burn a copy of the original CD, then add the "hidden" tracks where I wanted.
