Playing Background Music File During Powerpoint Presentation

May 21, 2005 2:01PM PDT

I am trying to create a slideshow in PowerPoint, and play some background music throughout it, but I can't seem to get the music to play. What do I need to do, or is there a better way? Thanks! I am using MS Office 2003 and Windows XP.

Playing Background Music File During Powerpoint Presentation
May 22, 2005 1:52PM PDT

Thank you R. Proffitt for the reply to my post. I have gone to the site that you referred and put some music to my pp presentation, I can put the music on ok, but when I e-mail the music it will not play, when the e-mail is received by my friends. The ppshow is ok, but no music. For some reason the music is not being link to the presentation. I am using a MIDI music file. Any suggestion or help out there. Please remember I am just new at this power point and computing.

If your friends machines have issues...

Such as a missing audio or video codec, that could explain it. Stick with WAV or very plain MP3 for the background music. Always use the latest Powerpoint player on machines that don't have the full version of powerpoint.

Wav & MP3 Music Files
May 24, 2005 10:58AM PDT

Thank your Bob; my friend?s computers are ok with hearing the music I just cannot get the music to them in a power point that I e-mail them. I will be searching for some WAV and MP3 music files. The only music files that I have are MIDI files right now. I am sure I can find some free music somewhere on the internet. Again thank your for everything. JOSK41

Ah, midi. From memory a fix?
May 24, 2005 12:18PM PDT

"Go to WMP's Tools:Formats:Options. Uncheck "MIDI File", click apply, then check "MIDI file" and click Apply."

Now do NOT dismiss this idea too quickly. This is from the WMP mini FAQ and I've had great luck in using what others dismiss because they think it doesn't apply.

The above quote is from http://www.nwlink.com/~zachd/pss/pss.html

http://www.mcse.ms/archive151-2004-5-706706.html notes other issues.

But some advice here. This is their machine with an issue. I advise to just pass along there might be a fix but stop short of fixing their machines.
