Question

Play stuff from my computer on a 7 Series Smart TV?

Mar 7, 2016 4:16PM PST

Hi All,

I have just purchased a Series 7 Samsung Smart TV (http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/tv-audio-video/television/uhd-tv/UA65JU7000WXXY), and am now looking for the best way to play content that is stored on my computer through the TV.

The TV and computer are located in separate rooms, furthermore they are networked using Ethernet (rather than Wi-Fi) because cabled connections still provide superior bandwidth. This being said I also have two 54Mbps Wireless Access Points (APs) in my home so I can potentially use those with my Samsung phone to control the TV (and by extension the content that is being played from my computer).

I have noticed online that there is an App called Smart View 2 (http://www.samsung.com/us/apps/smart-view-2/) which is designed to allow access to Computer content using the Smart TV. However there is no direct mention of whether this App will work using an Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi.

Can anybody recommend the best way to play content stored on a computer through the TV over Ethernet?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

Go for it.

For me the BEST WAY I FOUND to day is my latest toy. It's an Intel NUC PC with the Logitech K400 Plus keyboard. It plays them all without the usual issues you have with what you mentioned.

Now using Windows Media Center with Media Streaming enabled!
Mar 10, 2016 6:58PM PST

Hi Guys,

I tried several software packages including -

<> Samsung SmartView - which worked fine but required heavy manual intervention.
<> Banamalon HomeMedia and WIN - Remote - both of which had their quirks!
<> Samsung PC Share Manager - which is designed to work with earlier Samsung Smart TVs, such as the Series 6 which to the best of my understanding had a program called 'Wiselink Pro' installed (). Without 'Wiselink Pro' the TV cannot see any of the files configured within Samsung PC Share Manager.

I was starting to lose hope of finding a solution when I happened across a Windows Media Player tutorial. This in turn lead me towards a tutorial on how to enable Media Streaming in Windows 10.

Ultimately I have everything running well now. Setup was relatively simple in comparison to the other programs which I had tinkered with previously.

1). Open Windows Media Player (WMP)
2). Make sure that your WMP Libraries have content to play (<h1><span class="matXL">Add items to the Windows Media Player Library</span></h1>)
3). Enable Media Streaming in Windows 10
4). Turn your TV on
5). Press the Source button on your remote and navigate to the 'computer icon' (which looks similar to the icon below)

6). Navigate to your content and Play!

This method has saved me upward to $500 because I no longer need to purchase a 4K capable player. Furthermore everything that I played from my computer including a 2K movie, has looked amazing. I am confident that this method will hold up to 4K movies as well, but time will tell I suppose.

Kind Regards,
