Question

Play Hevc on Sony TV

Apr 12, 2018 2:35AM PDT

I own a Sony 32 inch klv-r302e TV which allows playing MPEG4, H.264 codec encoded files. But it does n't support HEVC H.265 playback. Is there a way to install this codec on this TV by cracking the software or some other way? (like someone can install a new OS in a smart phone by rooting)
(I understand that HEVC playback needs good hardware. But I should be able to play up to some level with the available processing power. at least 1080p videos)

So far no.

These Smart TVs are very locked down. This is why you transcode video to play on such TVs.

I've used Handbrake and VLC Player to do such work.

Yep, but easier yet is....

....connecting a computer to the HDTV via HDMI using VLC to playback any files. Transcoding is a pain in 2018! Wink

At least they didn't mention DLNA.
