General discussion

Plasma, up to date information supplied. By request!

Dec 4, 2005 1:08AM PST

As a young man, not so long ago. Without knowing it at the time. I became part of Plasma history in North America. With the introduction of the 1st generation Plasma Panels to North America retail stores in 1999
I was fortunate enough to see the sell in (to retail stores) of the 50'' Plasma. Introduced at $20K U.S. and $25K Canadian. I was a part of the wholesale division at that time.
I have seen it grow. Generation to generation. To what it is today in the Retail sector.
I am presently a part of the retail division and handle many questions at the sales floor level.
I can answer most of the misconceptions the Industry has created around Plasma technology.
Why 37'' and larger Plasma technology outsells any and all other viewing formats.
Why some BIG Company's who did have their name on Plasma no longer do... To why BIG Company's that swore they would ''NEVER'' have their name on Plasma now do.
Where you should and should not buy a Plasma. To why one business sells a Plasma name or model # that is strange to the rest of the industry.
Why and how pricing has dropped so dramatically. To the embarrassment of Plasma's selling in Clearance stores that are unable to educate or service the client
I will not answer questions on current competitive pricing from business to business. That is not part of this forum.
I will however answer what you need to know as quick as I can. Just remember the length of time it may take to respond due to an over whelming quantity of questions. I will answer the questions in a priority type manner. So please ask questions that will benefit all of those who read this forum
Thank you
Educate yourself on Plasma before you buy. Not after the fact.
Buyer's remorse is a reality in this part of the Industry. Be smart, be inquizative and try not to be too thrifty. You truly get what you pay for.
P.G.

Amen!

Bravo! If only people would accept and take this sage advice rather than purchase on impulse, there wouldn't be so much misinformation on plasma or LCD!

Research, learn, and comparison shop...BEFORE YOU BUY!

Excellent advice, and it certainly paid off for me with my recent plasma display purchase.

Thanks for helping to spread the word...and I'll continue the same.

Pioneer PDP-4361HD
Dec 6, 2005 12:48AM PST

Thanks for taking the time to help answer questions. Im also going to post this question as main thread. But I wanted to know why I cant find any information on the Pioneer PDP-4361HD. Their corporate site on list the PDP-4360HD. I asked their customer support department (via email) and they said it depends on the reseller. So I'm assuming that the 4361HD is only at BestBuy? I also asked the difference between the 4360HD and the 4361HD and Pionner customer service stated that they are the same model.

Also what are your takes on Pioneer products such as the Pure Drive technology and the ACE IV technology?

Thanks,
Brad

Panasonic 42PX50U vs Hitachi 42HDS52
Feb 8, 2006 9:39PM PST

How do you think these two sets compare? Plan on viewing Charter digital cable with cable card and off-air HD local channels. Is the Hitachi 42HDT52 and 42HDS52 the same model? Thank you

I'm not the Plasma Guy but I am a big plasma fan. I think this model, the 42HDT52, and the 42HDS52 are probably very close models. Might want to check the exact spec with Hitachi Website.

I personally vote for the Panny.

Hitachi model difference
Feb 21, 2006 2:46PM PST

I believe the only difference between the two models is that the T52 has the built in TV guide feature while the S52 does not. I own the S52a model and it has an amazing HD picture that beats the Panny hands down in my opinion.

Why Did Sony Get Out Of the Plasma Biz?....
Feb 8, 2006 10:55PM PST

...I absolutely love their 42" set (KDE-42XS955). I've heard it was "to focus" on other technologies but this really rings hollow to me as it's hard to imagine a company the size of Sony that couldn't or wouldn't "focus on" as many technologies as they wanted to.

What's up here?

Why Did Sony Get Out Of the Plasma Biz?...
Feb 9, 2006 1:22AM PST

The old addage may apply, "Jack of all trades, master of none"
With Pannasoinc having a 50% market share of the plasma business, and Sony having to fight with a dozen or so other companies for the remainder???
Only JVC and Sony make LCoS sets. The only HDTV that has a better picture than a LCoS set is the plasma. John
