Plasma tv PN50C8000YFXZA turns on but no sound or picture

The TV turns on but there is no picture or sound. When I shut it off the melodic tune of the TV turning off can be heard. Cablevision guy tried using component cables but we still get "no signal" showing on the screen. Has anyone experienced this? I know it is not simply the HDMI input because the component cables would have corrected the problem. There is a signal because when we put the cable to the receiver we get the audio from the cable. Any suggestions?

I'd look in the manuals for a reset first.
