Plasma TV Extended Warranty

Jan 30, 2005 3:37AM PST

I have the opportunity to extend my warranty on a Plasma TV set I just bought for 3 additional years over the manufacturers 1 year for only $120. Could this be worth the money?

Absolutely. Go for it. When I bought my Plasma, the extended warranty offere to me was about $700 for 3 years. Just make sure the provider is legitimate and an approved service provider for the brand you have.

Are you buying this extended service through a third party provider? And if so, who is it? I would purchase the extended service for my Plasma!

The warranty is being handled by the retailer (a well respected authorized dealer in my area who only handles audio/video and where I have purchased many items over the past 30+ years). The actual cost is $350 for 4 years. So you think this is a wise investment?

RED ALERT.

Retailers rarely stock parts or hire competent repair staff armed with proper parts, training and test equipment. It's now unlikely they will be able to stand up to the warranty if the screen fails...
