Plasma's and screen resolution

Nov 23, 2005 6:35AM PST

Please help clarify: I can't find any plasma's that will display in 1080i highest I've seen is 768...merchants are trying to pull a fast one on consumers when they advertise because they say 1080i in the comments but if you look closely at the specs it will accept a 1080i signal and display it in 768 or 720. Does anyone know when plasmas will be made available in to display in 1080i and not just accept the 1080i signal and then downgrade it? Also, I know I'm foolish for asking this when they don't even make a 1080i, but how far away is the 1080p Plasma set?

If I'm not understanding this properly, please educate me....thanks!

...First off, here's a good short article on screen resolutions.

Most plasmas are 1024x768 or 1024x1024. I don't think it's really feasible to squeeze the number of pixels necessary to be true 1080p on a plasma screen smaller than 55". I wouldn't be holding my breath. If they eve do become available, they'll be ridiculously expensive.

1024x1024 is awesomely sharp. I can't imagine it could get a lot better than this.
