Plasma/DirecTV help...

Jan 16, 2005 1:19PM PST

Recently purchased Panasonic EDTV model th-37pd25u/p. I hooked it up to my Directv receiver via the audio/video jacks plus the S-video terminal. Thus making it a component input rather than an antenna input. I tried to connect the RF output to the "A" antenna input and just recieved a snowy video in analog and no video in digital. The picture seems pretty good now, even though the local channels(which I receive through Directv are still pretty weak.

I guess my questions are:

1. Is this the optimum way to set the system up?

2. Is it worth it to invest $300.00 in a directv hd receiver with component video outputs even though my max resolution is 480 dpi?

3. Did I make an error trying to set up the RF connection?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Keep in mind these diagrams are generic and may not depict what you have but they should help.Read the footnotes: *Many Plasma Screens may not accept both S-Video and Composite connections at the same time*.

The optimum hook up would be to get a HD tuner from Directv if you want to get the best possible picture when watching shows through your Sat. This will also allow you to hook up component video or DVI instead of using s-vid or composite vid. Even though your tv isn't full HD, it will still have a pretty good pictue when watching HD programs. Also, you have a tv that has an integrated ATSC tuner, hook up your antenna straight from the wall to the digital coax input. Go into your menu and set up your digital off air channels, this will allow you to watch all of the HD content on your tv through the antenna when they are available. Make sure you aren't trying to hook up the RF connection coming out of the Sat box. You will need to use it coming directly from the antenna.
