Pixelated Windows Update icon in Control Panel

I just did a winsock reset because I was having trouble getting online via ethernet, and had some of the symptoms of Winsock2 corruption. Now I can get online again, but there's still something really odd on my computer. When I go to control panel, all of the icons look normal except for the Windows Update icon, which is really pixelated and looks very much out of place. What is this a symptom of? Could this be some unrelated virus or malware? Anyone else seen this? I haven't had any Windows Update prompts in the system tray in a while, I'm wondering what this thing is doing...!?
