Pioneer PDPLX508D V's Sony KDL52XBR

Hi there

Basically I am looking to purchase a new TV (this is a huge spend for us and so I want to get as much idea as possible to make the right choice) I have done a lot of research and have narrowed it down to these two units. My dilemma is, I'm not 100% certain of which format I want to go with, Plasma or LCD.

Price is no factor as I have sourced the two TV's and there is little difference between the two in the prices I can get them for.

Light also is not an issue as it is to go in our lounge room which is not exceptionally bright as opposed to our family room and I have no issues with closing the blinds.

I really enjoy my films (not so much of a T.V viewer but do watch a little) and will be connecting it up to a nice surround sound system comprising of Onkyo TX-SR603 amp and Dali 7.1 speakers. So my home theater is quite important to me.

My children also enjoy the Play Station (although they do have a PS2 connected to the TV in the Family room) However when I do invest in a PS3 it will be hooked up to the this Screen mainly to serve as a blue ray player, but I know they will also want to play PS3 games on it. How likely is image burn over several hours usage (nothing excessive)? and is this likely to depreciate the brightness and life of the Tv? as I know image burn isn't a permanent thing.

How good are games likely to look and handle on a plasma compared to an LCD?

My priority I guess is picture quality. And the overall quality of the TV I buy, given it will be a purchase that I hope will see us through a lot of years.

Are there any real detrimental factors with either format that will impede on picture quality, and gaming experience and what would they be?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts

One big difference between this plasma and LCD is the superior contrast ratio of the plasma (20,000 vs 2,000). This translates into vastly better blacks. If you plan to watch much tv under conditions of low light you will appreciate the superior contrast ratio of the plasma.

Is that a Euro model pioneer?

I carry Pioneer elites and standard Pioneers and I've never seen that model. If the pioneer is anything like the PDP5080,it will have a excellant picture. Anytime you can get any 1080p Pioneer 50 for under $3000, take that anytime. If its a 720p pioneer, and I know im doing Blu-Ray or any PS3 gaming I'm taking Xbr4/xbr5.
