Pioneer PDP-4214HD -- Volume problems

Mar 25, 2006 9:23AM PST

We just purchased the Pioneer PDP-4214HD at Costco. I am very disappointed with the volume level and am curious if others are having the same problem.

The volume goes from 1-100. We only find the volume level acceptable in the 90-100 range. Anything less than 70 and we can barely hear the program. We have an Apple G5 on the other side of the room, and it drowns out the Pioneer (G5 is at 80% volume and Pioneer is at 100).

I love the picture, and don't want to return the unit.....I'd love to hear any trouble shooting hints.

No, the sound isn't distorted, it sounds pretty good...the volume just isn't there. I talked to a customer service rep yesterday, and they didn't have any silver bullets. I suppose since most people hook these TV's up to sound systems, Pioneer decided to skimp on the speakers...or there is a flaw in my unit. Regardless, I'm taking it back this weekend.

CHARLIE MORE ADVICE HA HA

Once you get this set up properly with a nice hi-def sat or cable system and a d.v.d. player then take the plunge and go for a 5.1 sirround system You will be able to use your optical audio output from your hi-def box and d.v.d. player for a mindbending sound experience once you see a great picture you will have the bug and go all the way let us know how everything turnes out stewart
