Question

Pinterest site won't open in IE 9?

by pk9901 / March 7, 2013 2:48 AM PST

I'm trying to use Pinterest in IE 9, Windows Vista, and get the error message: Internet Explorer cannot display the Web page. (I get the same message when trying to use Google Chrome.)

I'm connected to the Internet and can open other sites. I've tried changing Pinterest to https://pinterest, but that doesn't help.

I've upgraded to the latest version of Windows Vista and installed Service Packs 1 and 2. I'm using a Toshiba Satellite A205 laptop, Intel Core 2 CPU, 1 GB of RAM, and 32-bit OS.

Any ideas on what I need to do to open this site? Thanks!

-> Use another browser <-

IE has some compatibility mode settings but since Google Chrome fails there must be something else going on besides your TOPIC.

http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/pinterest.com.html shows it's up so try other computers and networks.

Pinterest works on other devices--just not this one :(
by pk9901 / March 7, 2013 3:24 AM PST

Thanks for your response.

Pinterest works fine on my desktop Mac, my iPhone, and even my NookTablet, all on the same network.

It's just this Windows laptop I'm having trouble with. (I'm a Mac user with limited Windows experience.) Is it possible that the computer is too old or doesn't have enough RAM to open a photo-intensive site like Pinterest? Or do I need to update Java or some other software?

Thanks for any help!

This one is not always "do this" to solve.

For example, what happens if you use the Google DNS on this laptop?

And given all the malware out there and site blocking those antivirus suites have, I rarely guess if it's that. Sorry but the list gets too long today.

Let's start with the Google DNS which is noted at a link to follow.

Changed Google DNS---still no Pinterest
by pk9901 / March 7, 2013 3:50 AM PST

I did this, but Pinterest still won't open. (However, it seems to have speeded up Google, which is helpful.)

Just FYI, there is no antiviru suite on this computer (there was, but it apparently ran out). Also, the firewall is turned off. (This is a friend's computer I'm trying to help her with.)

Thanks!

AHA. Expired antivirus.

Some of those block the web so it's time to fix that.

Uninstall that antivirus and get another. AVAST and others have free ones.

I'll try that next

I'll try uninstalling the antivirus and getting a new one next.

Thanks for all your help!

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
