Pink/green screen with dvd when using surroundsound receiver

Mar 28, 2018 4:03AM PDT

I have a Samsung HD TV, and a yamaha receiver & surround sound. When I play dvds the picture I get is a green/pink. I have both a ps4 and an LG hdmi dvd player. The same issue present in both. However I can still play games and Internet video using my ps4 and picture quality is fine. What can I do?

What's the role of the receiver in playing DVD's on the ps4 compared with games and Internet video's?

The av receiver connects my surround sound to my tv. My set-up is Samsung tv to yamaha av receiver. Then av receiver to ps4, and to dvd player. All use hdmi. All hdmi cables brand new. As I said colour and sound work perfectly when playing disc video games and using Internet videos. Only when I play a dvd does the colour go green/pink. And that's the only issue as sound as works perfectly. I am stumped so any help is greatly appreciated!

How is the video connected?

This sounds like you used RCA jacks for video and might have the TV in component mode rather than composite. It's a setting in the (unknown model) TV. Check your manual about how to switch to and use composite video.

We would need to test this player on another TV and the TV with another player to see where the issue is. As it stands it sounds like a bum DVD player. You left out all model numbers and year made. Look around the player for a factory reset as well as firmware updates.

I understand where you're coming from, however since it doesn't work playing through my ps4(or even ps3) and dvd player leads me to believe its the receiver that's at fault but I can't understand why. If I bypass it and plug either player straight into my tv it works fine.

Leaving out all model numbers, year, connections means others and I can't check on other areas. That's OK. I respect folk's privacy concerns.

If you feel it's the receiver then test without that in the path. If fixed, check for receiver firmware updates and settings. Do not do ANY video processing in the receiver. Just don't. Remember I don't have a model number so this advice may be incorrect or does not apply.

It is an odd duck. Still can't seem to nail what sort of duck it is yet.

Hey I appreciate the help however I have managed to fix it. Turns out the receiver only has one dvd hdmi port. And for whatever reason doesn't understand that the ps4 can work in that way. Either way problem solved! Thanks again!

Now that I know the receiver model it is odd how it calls out HDMI 1 for BD/DVD play.
Glad it was a simple thing.

On a parting note, there is no firmware update for the receiver so you're good to go.
