PictBridge printer

Feb 12, 2006 4:10AM PST

I'm not sure if I should ask in this forum or another forum but I was looking at the small PictBridge printers..not the ones that print/scan/fax but the stand-alone that prints nothing but pictures.

I don't think my deskjet printer is doing any good..are they worth having..or am I best to replace my printer with the all-in-one?

I hate to spend $100 to just print pictures.

I think the PictBridge was invented for people who do not have a computer.

I prefer to print from the computer.

You can find a Hewlette Packard all-in-one (no fax) for about $100. It has memory card slots that you can use to move your photos to the computer instead of having to connect the camera to the computer. I think you can also print the photos right from the memory cards.

I have an all-in-one printer (no fax) and find it as handy as a Swiss Army knife.

It also functions as a copy machine.
With color copies...no less.

The one thing you are going to have to ask your self is if 4x6 print size is all you care about, or can you afford to give up desk space for another printer. I use the Canon Pixma iP6600D myself and I am very happy with it. If I only needed 4x6 prints then my choice is the Selphy 810. Now why you may ask, well the large LCD screen so that I don't need a computer to use them is one reason. The quality is A++++ for another. Both are inkjet machines and I think are good value for the money. They both have card slots on them so they can take all the current memory cards, at least until Sony make ANOTHER card format.

Hope this helps,

Tim

You're right..do I need something to take up more space. Since I have a computer I'm better off getting an all-in-one to print pics. My Lexmark Z51 just isn't cutting it.

You might want to consider whether you need to print at all.

Images can be quickly uploaded to lots of places including Sam's Club and Costco. The cost for 4x6 is quite small, and the quality is good.

What do you mean? I can just give them a cd to print out?

Yes, you sure can, or you can simply upload the images to

their web site. You only have to physically go to their store to pick up the prints.
